Bariatrics-Managing the Obese Client
The numbers of individuals who are considered obese and morbidly obese are increasing rapidly and there is no indication that the numbers will decrease at any time in the near future. “Bariatrics’ is the term used to refer to healthcare as it relates to the causes, prevention and treatment of obesity. It is not uncommon that as a healthcare provider, you may serve a client that weighs between 300-700 pounds. Managing the needs of the bariatric client can be time consuming, costly and complex therefore it is important that there be an interdisciplinary approach to caring for the needs of the obese client.
